A year ago, Maymont opened its first American doors in Greenville, South Carolina. This month, we're marking that anniversary by going back to the city where this all felt real for the first time: New York.
I didn't expect to be writing that sentence twice in one year, but here we are. Maymont is officially part of the Flying Solo showroom in New York City — a retail space built specifically for independent designers, selling directly to customers who are looking for something they can't find anywhere else.
If you don't know Flying Solo, here's the short version: it's a platform built by and for independent brands, with a flagship store in New York (and one in Paris) where designers like us sell alongside each other instead of competing for space in someone else's catalog. It's not a wholesale account in the traditional sense. It's a room full of brands that all got there the same way we did — by showing up and asking for a chance.
That phrase keeps following me around this year. Show up. Ask for a chance. Let the work speak once you're in the room.
Why this feels like the right way to mark one year
I could have marked this anniversary quietly — a look back at the numbers, a thank-you post, and moved on. But when the opportunity to join Flying Solo came through, it felt like the more honest way to celebrate. A year ago, we were asking Greenville to take a chance on a brand nobody there had heard of. Now we're asking New York the same question, standing on a little more proof than we had the first time.
What this means for you
If you're in New York, or find yourself there this season, you'll be able to walk into the Flying Solo showroom and see Maymont on the floor — in person, alongside other independent designers who built their brands the same slow, deliberate way we built ours. If you're not in New York, nothing changes for you: the collection is still on the rail in Greenville and lives at maymont.shop.
One year in America. Back in New York with more than a backpack full of lookbooks this time. I don't know exactly what year two looks like yet. I just know we're not slowing down to find out.
With gratitude,
Katerina
